Hello my name is David Murray and I’m running a series of SEO and WordPress courses. This first course I’m going to tell you about is the free SEO course. So basically it’s a quick introduction to tell you what SEO is all about, what you can do with SEO, what you can do with SEO and its basically to show you how easy SEO is, and I’m trying to encourage you to do it yourself.

So on this course you will learn, firstly, how to put a WordPress website together, and within 90 minutes I will produce a nice functional WordPress website, and then I’ll add some basic SEO to it, so you can see exactly how easy it is. So ideally the idea of the course is to not teach you everything about SEO but to show you the sort of things that SEO entails and if you like what you see then we run a full day SEO course, a full day WordPress course, and a number of other courses.

Now at the end of the day it doesn’t matter how pretty your website looks, if nobody visits it, you’re not going to make any money. What SEO is all about, it’s short for search engine optimisation, and SEO is basically a collection of techniques for essentially promoting your website within the Google search engine results. It’s important to realise there are two types of ways of being displayed In Google, there is the pay per click model which basically means that effectively you’re advertising, you are paying for advertising on Google’s front page. This may work but can be very expensive. What SEO is all about is basically trying to appear on the first page of the search engine results for free, and that’s a big difference. Remember with pay per click, every time someone clicks on your advert you pay money to Google and in some cases it can be a lot of money. What I’m talking about, SEO, search engine optimisation, is basically a collection of techniques that promotes your website within the Google search engine results, and ideally gets you onto the first page.

Don’t be taken in by lots of claims of guarantees to get you on the first page, nobody can guarantee that obviously if you think about it, no one can guarantee that. So all I can do is basically show you some techniques that I use, and I’ll show you the sort of results I get.

So if I show the sorts of results I do get, let’s have a look, I run a number of companies one of them is a computer training company that basically doesn’t do computer training anymore, we used to we now sell computer training materials. So let’s do a search on Google for computer training materials. Now notice I just typed in computer training materials, there was no Perth, no Joondalup, no Ocean Reef or Wanneroo which would make it a lot easier, all I did was type in computer training materials. If we go and click on the search button, let’s see how I do. These are those adverts I was talking about, so you can pay an awful lot of money to go up the top here so there are 3 adverts. One, two and three, and as I say you pay money for those, not to be displayed but is someone clicks on those, I won’t actually do it because it’ll cost them money, but if I clicked here, whoever is running that advert I would have basically just cost them some money, they’ll have to pay Google for that.
