SEO stands for search engine optimisation, and SEO is basically a collection of techniques that’ll help your website get more easily found in the Google search engine results. Now it’s very important to realise that it’s all very well having a pretty website but what you really need is to be easily found in the search engine results and that’s really where SEO comes in. To show you the kind of things that can be achieved, I do SEO and I do training, so if I type in SEO and if I type in training, and if I do a search for that, these are the sort of results you generally get. You get paid adverts, these are what are called ‘pay per click’ adverts at the top here, and I don’t actually click on them but basically you can see it’s identifiable by the word AD in the first three cases here. So the only way, the only reason these people are being displayed here is because they paid money, it’s like an auction system, the more you pay the higher you are going to show up in these results here, the first three up here and also these ones down the side here. So basically you get here by paying Google lots and lots of money, and every time someone clicks on one of your links, you pay Google money.
Now remember I typed in SEO training, and let’s look at what’s called the organic search engine results. Here you are, this is me, this is www.4seotraining.com.au that’s my address there and it tells you about the courses that we do and you know basically if I go and click on that, just to show it is me, sure enough there we are, there is the Cheltenham Group. And if I go back, the sort of thing that can get with good SEO is you can get extra bits and pieces underneath here, so if you look at say some of these other results like this one here, you get a very small amount of information. If you go to mine, first of all, where are we, first of all we go one, two three, I’ve got the first three results in the organic section, I’ve got these little stars displayed here I’ve got my address displayed here I’ve also got some information about courses, and if you click on here you can have details about prices and booking, and if that wasn’t enough over here, that’s me, that little dot so remember I just typed in SEO training, and I’ve got a little dot here showing you my address here and if I clicked on that I’d get more information and directions, so on and so forth.
So that’s the sort of results you’re aiming for basically, I can’t guarantee you are going to get the same results as me, but on the other hand do bear in mind that SEO is a very competitive marketing and all my competitors allegedly know all about SEO, I wish they did. A lot of SEO companies are frankly really hopeless, embarrassingly so in some cases, so I’m not showing off here I’m making a point that I do know what I’m talking about I’ve been doing SEO since 1996 when my first website went live so that’s what almost twenty years now. So I’ve been round the block a few times, I know what I’m taking about and there are no magic bullets in SEO, most of its just common sense and a case of knowing what to do and what not to do, and that’s the sort of stuff I’m going to show you on this one day course.

Now it’s important to realise there is no prior experience necessary you don’t have to be an IT techie or anything like that, you don’t have to be a whiz kid, there’s no programing, nothing like that, I mean basically if you’re up to speed on something like Microsoft word and if can say transfer files from a hard disk to a thumb drive, that’s about as hard as it gets in terms of theory and what have you. Most of it is common sense and is just knowing what to do.
